** Ghost in the Shell (2017)** The 2017 live-action adaptation of *Ghost in the Shell* has generated a divided response amongst its viewers, yet it finds a steady stream of appreciation for its visual innovation and engaging performances, particularly from lead actress Scarlett Johansson. The film is described as a "solid sci-fi experience," blending a rich aesthetic with themes that resonate deeply with both anime fans and newcomers alike. With striking visuals reminiscent of iconic films like *Blade Runner* and *The Fifth Element*, it successfully transports audiences into a futuristic world where human augmentation invites philosophical inquiry into the nature of identity. Fans of the original 1995 anime might find this movie a refreshing but slightly simplified interpretation, as it retains core plot elements while making them more accessible for contemporary viewers. The narrative weaves into the profound questions posed in the source material, exploring the dualism of mind and body—what truly defines humanity when the lines between the artificial and the organic are blurred? Despite expectations surrounding its storytelling, many viewers felt satisfied with the film's trajectory and poignancy, even if the ending did not offer surprises. Critics of the adaptation have pointed to a "whitewashing" controversy regarding character representation, but for some, the essence of the characters transcends their racial identities, making space for interpretations based on acting merit. Johansson's portrayal of the Major is regarded as a highlight, showcasing her transition from a synthetic being to a more emotive character. Overall, *Ghost in the Shell* (2017) stands as a visually enthralling piece that stimulates both action fans and those seeking a deeper understanding of Consciousness. It has positioned itself well within the sci-fi genre and is recommended for those who appreciate not only cinematic spectacles but also the philosophical discourses that accompany them. **Pros and Cons:** **
